MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team suffers its first home loss of the season at the hands of Roger Williams University by a score of 15-4 in the Quahog Cup.

The Hawks took control of the game from the start. Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Mike Hanna (Somers, Conn.) scored for Roger Williams in the first two minutes of the game to put the Seahawks on their heels.

The Hawks seemed to have an extra hop in their step as they gobbled up ground balls to keep possessions alive and were a step quicker to the net, racing out to a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Seahawks did not do themselves any favors either. It took a while for the Seahawks to settle into their offense, often turning the ball over because of unforced errors or errand passes. Those turnovers quickly turned into offense for the Hawks.

Matt Heeter (Wading River, N.Y.) and Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals in a span of 30 seconds to cut into the Hawks lead with 10:25 to play in the second.  However the Hawks answered back with two goals of their own to stymie the Seahawks momentum and take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

The Hawks did not let up and continued to score in the second half, scoring twice in the first 2:39 of the third quarter to take their largest lead 10-2.

Sharp Jones (Scituate, Mass.) would score again for the Seahawks but Tim Kelly would answer less than a minute later.  Kelly would finish with four goals and two assists to lead the Hawks.

The Hawks would add four more goals while only Eric Backus (Mansfield, Mass.) found the back of the net again for Salve Regina.

The Seahawks missed a lot of opportunities because of their turnovers, but also struggled with the man advantage, going 0-8 on the night man-up.  Struggling to possess the ball, and squandering scoring chances made it a long night for the Seahawks.

With the loss the Seahawks drop to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. Meanwhile the Hawks improve to 7-3 and 2-1 in the CCC.

Salve Regina will be back in action at Gaudet Field on Thursday when the Seahawks host Anna Maria at 5p.m. The Hawks next play on Friday April 3 versus Curry College.
