NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina's Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.) has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East D-III Senior All-Star team, it was announced by the regional chair Tim Murphy on Thursday. This marks the first time in program-history that a Seahawk has earned recognition on an NEILA All-Star team.

McKeon capped his Salve Regina career in style, captaining the Seahawks to their first-ever appearance in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championships and earning most outstanding player honors as SRU captured the title last Friday, 15-10, against visiting Mitchell College. Salve Regina (15-5) finished with its most wins ever in a single season which included a program best seven-game win streak.

"We are so excited for Curtis to represent Salve Regina in the 2014 East-West game," says his head coach Patrick Cooney, who earned his 80th victory as the Seahawk head coach with the ECAC championship. "I know he looks forward to competing against the best graduating lacrosse players New England has to offer."

The West Haven, Conn. native graduates among the all-time leaders in several categories including first in ground balls (629), first in face-offs won (875), first in face-off win percentage (.614), sixth in points (129), seventh in assists (48), and eighth in goals (81). This season he set the school record for groundballs in a game (24) during a win at Clark University (March 19) and duplicated the feat in an overtime win at Wentworth Institute of Technology (April 15).

While his 127 ground balls as a freshman in 2011 set a single season school record, McKeon exceeded that mark in both his junior year (161 in 2013) and senior year (250 in 2014). He and classmate Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) both had five game-winning goals in 2014 to establish a program-high for a season.

The NEILA All-Star game will take place on Friday, May 30, at Springfield College with a 5 p.m. start time followed by a barbeque for players and their families.
