Pair of freshmen earn CCC weekly honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshmen Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Andrew Watkins (Natick, Mass.) helped the Salve Regina men's lacrosse team to a 2-0 week and earned Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the league's office.

LoCicero, the CCC Rookie of the Week, led the Seahawks in points, as he recorded 11 in a perfect 2-0 week. LoCicero handed out a game-high five assists and added two goals in SRU's 18-8 victory over Hood. The attacker followed the seven-point game with four more, as he tallied three more assists and netted one goal in the Seahawks 12-11 victory over Wesley. LoCicero leads his team and the conference in assists with 22 on the season, while also being just three helpers shy of tying Salve Regina's single-season record of 25. The rookie is averaging 4.0 assists per game and 5.5 points per game this season.

Watkins, the CCC Defensive Player of the Week, finished the week with a 7.13 GAA making 22 saves and allowing 12 goals in 101:03 of action. In an 18-8 win over Hood, Watkins held the Blazers to just one goal in 41:03 minutes in the net, while making six saves. The freshman went on to record 16 saves in Salve Regina's 12-11 win over Wesley.


The Seahawks are 6-0 this season and will look to continue its winning streak as they travel to Clark (Mass.) on Wednesday, March 19. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
