Men's lacrosse takes down Gordon

WENHAM, MA— Salve Regina University men's lacrosse improved to 5-8 overall, 2-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a 17-7 win over the host Fighting Scots on Senior Day at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex. The loss drops the Scots to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in the CCC.

Salve received points from 11 different players on the day, with Curtis McKeon (Jr./West Haven, Conn.) and Chad Hollenshade (Jr./Lutherville, Md.) leading the charge with five points each and Alex Flynn (Fr./Nashua, N.H.) recording three points all on goals. Netminder Brian Farina (Fr./Jenkintown, Pa.) booked four saves in nearly 55 minutes of work to earn the win.

Sam Spellman (So./Lewes, Del.) paced Gordon's day with a trio of goals, while Mio Sison (So./Warren, Mich.) added two and Colin Davis (Fr./Mystic, Conn.) and Jeremy Nelson (Jr./West Chester, Pa.) recorded one each. Keeper Houston Zemanski (Sr./Annapolis, Md.) tied his season-high with 17 saves.

Salve was 16-of-25 on face-offs in the matchup, all of which were earned by McKeon.

The Seahawks established themselves at the outset by outscoring Gordon 4-1 in the opening frame behind goals from Hollenshade, Cam Brazill (Fr./Ridgewood, N.J.), Daniel Parks (Jr./Nesconset, N.Y.), and Flynn. Though Flynn and Spellman traded goals in the early minutes of the second, Salve netted three straight to build the lead before Gordon's Davis converted his lone tally off a feed from Dominic Dantona (Sr./Syosset, N.Y.) with just five seconds remaining make it 8-3 at the half.

The third stanza belonged almost entirely to the Seahawks, however, who recorded six goals in the frame while limiting the Scots to just one to extend their advantage to 10 goals (14-4) heading into the final period.

And though the Scots' offense came alive a bit in the fourth with two goals from Sison and one more from Spellman, Salve's Jacob Pantani (Fr./Branford, Conn.), Flynn, and Jack Murray (So./Warren, N.J.) matched each of those goals to preserve the 10-point win.

The Scots have just two conference matchups remaining, the first of which is at Roger Williams University on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. Salve will host Curry in a CCC duel on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
