Hollenshade leads Seahawks to victory

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Junior Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) continued his to put up career numbers as he led the Salve Regina men's lacrosse team to an 11-5 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent, on a blustery Friday afternoon.

Just a game after putting up a career-high eight points, Hollenshade led all players with six goals, including what proved to the game winner late in the first quarter. The six goals is also a career high for the junior attackman.

Freshman Jake Pantani (Branford, Conn.) got the Seahawks (2-5) off to a quick start with his 11^th goal of the year. After picking up a ground ball in a scrum in front of the cage, Pantani fired high and beat the Dolphins keeper to give Salve Regina a 1-0 lead just 47 seconds into the game.

The Dolphins (2-3) evened the score just over four minutes later as sophomore Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y) took a pass from the goalie to clear the ball across the field, and after beating a defender, found the back of the net for his third tally of the season.

The tie would not last, however, as freshman Alex Flynn (Nashua, N.H.) scored just 46 seconds later. Off a pass from senior Francis McNulty (Durham, Conn.), Flynn fired the ball past junior Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) to give the lead back to Salve Regina, 2-1, a lead the Seahawks would not lose.

Hollenshade then took control of the game, firing three-straight goals over four minutes of action to push the Salve Regina lead to 5-1. Hollenshade's first goal of the run was 17 seconds into a man-up opportunity, his first of three of the game.

Flynn wrapped up the Seahawk scoring with just 37 seconds left in the opening quarter as he scored his third of the season.

The second period opened much quieter than the first, this time with the Dolphins striking first. After the Seahawks held them scoreless for 21:54, the Dolphins cut into the Salve Regina lead as freshman Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Freshman James Fee (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Pantani answered in the final 1:37 of play with back-to-back goals to close out the half, 9-2, in favor of the Seahawks.

The third quarter played out much like the second, as both teams were held scoreless until senior Bryan Stein (Larchmont, N.Y.) posted his seventh goal of the season with 3:49 to play in the third. Hollsenshade answered with his second man-up goal of the game with 2:34 to play off a pass from senior Taylor Braun (Commack, N.Y.).

Hollenshade put the final touches on his six-goal game three minutes into the final period as he took a pass from Pantani 16 seconds into the Seahawks man-up opportunity.

The Dolphins scored the final two goals of the game as Stein and junior Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) went back-to-back to bring the score to its final, 11-5.

Freshman Brian Farina (Jenkintown, Pa.) made seven saves to earn his third victory of his collegiate career while Kalibat made six saves in the loss.

Junior Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.) picked up a game-high nine ground balls to help Salve Regina win the ground ball battle, 33-14. McKeon was solid at the "X" for the Seahawks, winning 16-of-17 face offs.

Salve Regina returns to the turf when the Seahawks welcome Clark (Mass.) to Gaudet Field on Wednesday, March 20. The opening face off is set for 5 p.m.
