SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Salve Regina men's lacrosse team fell to #13 Western New England, 21-4, in both teams Commonwealth Coast Conference opener, Saturday afternoon.

Western New England (1-1, 1-0 CCC) got off to a hot start as senior Nick Jez (Somers, Conn.) scored off the Golden Bears opening possession. Juniors Owen Caruso (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Michael Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) each scored about 10 minutes apart to give WNE a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Golden Bears pushed their lead to 7-0 with four-straight goals over the first eight minutes of the second quarter. Junior Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) broke through the Golden Bears defense to get the Seahawks (0-5, 0-1 CCC) on the board off a pass from classmate Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.).

Western New England extended its lead with three-straight goals spanning just under five minutes before freshman Cam Brazill (Ridgewood, N.J.) ended the quarter with his fifth of the season off McKeon's second of the assist of the game.

Donahue helped to push the Golden Bears' lead to 15-2 with three goals sandwiched by a goal from senior Corbett Corrigan Harreys (Essex, Conn.) and a man-up tally from junior Sean Lawton (Abington, Mass.).

Freshman Alex Flynn (Nashua, N.H.) scored his first goal of his collegiate career to cut into WNE's lead, 15-3, but the Golden Bears answered with a pair of goals before sophomore James O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) sent home the Seahawks last goal of the game with 2:36 left in the period.

With the score 17-4 going into the final period, four different Golden Bears scored in the final frame to put the game away for WNE, 21-4.

Freshman Brian Farina (Jenkintown, Pa.) made a career-high 20 stops in the cage for Salve Regina while Golden Bears goalie Brandon Body earned the win with four saves.

McKeon led the game with nine ground balls while handing out two assists.

Salve Regina returns home on Tuesday, March 12 to host Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 4 p.m. at Gaudet Field.
