Seahawks can't catch Cardinals in second half, fall 13-8

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Junior Teddy Citrin (New Canaan, Conn.) scored four goals and classmate Max Landlow (Brookville, Conn.) racked up three goals and four assists to lead Wesleyan (Conn.) College to a 13-8 win over Salve Regina University in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

Sophomore Casey Lasada (Syracuse, N.Y.) also scored three goals for the Cardinals (1-0), who were playing in their season-opener. Junior Chris Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) scored four goals and classmate Brendan Rooney (West Newton, Mass.) dished out a pair of assists for the Seahawks, who slipped to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 lifetime against Wesleyan (Conn.).

 

Citrin scored two of his four goals in the opening period to help the Cardinals grab a 3-2 lead through one period of action. Freshman Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) and senior Sam Barnum (Holderness, N.H.) scored goals for the Seahawks in the opening 15 minutes. The Cardinals outscored the Seahawks 3-0 in the second period to take a 6-2 lead into halftime. Citrin, Lasada, and junior DJ Bernativitz (Orlando, Fla.) potted goals for Wesleyan (Conn.).

 

Salve Regina charged out of the gates in the second half behind Walker, who scored three times in the first 2:52 of the third to cut the Seahawk deficit to one (6-5). The Cardinals rallied back to score the next seven goals and put the game away. Landlow netted all three of his goals during the run while Lasada added a pair.

 

Junior Grant Covington (Gloucester, Mass.) stopped six shots to pick up the win for the Cardinals. Senior Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.) started in goal for the Seahawks and made 14 saves in his season debut.

 

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they host UMass Boston at 5 p.m. at Gaudet Field. The Cardinals travel to SUNY Maritime for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday.
