Walker, Connors lead Seahawks past UNE, 13-6

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Salve Regina University Seahawks outscored the University of New England Nor'easters 6-00 in the third period to break open a close game on their way to a 13-6 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win Thursday evening under the lights at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

 

Sophomore Chris Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) scored five times and first-year goalie Christopher Connors (Garden City, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves to pace Salve Regina (6-5, 3-2 TCCC).

 

The Seahawks also received three goals (all in the first half) from junior Sam Barnum (Holderness, N.H.) and a pair from sophomore Brendan Carroll (Garden City, N.Y.).

 

Leading 5-3 at the break, the visitors scored three times over the opening 4:46 of the third to pull away. Carroll made the score 6-3 win an unassisted goal 59 seconds into the frame, then Walker went back-to-back. SRU would scored three more times in the decisive period.

 

Six different players scored one goal apiece for the Nor'easters. Junior Michael Woods (Kittery Point, Maine) and first-year Tyler Thomas (Pleasantville, N.Y.) finished with two points apiece with a marker and an assist. Sophomore goalie Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) turned aside 11 shots for the Nor'easters (4-5, 1-3).

 

The Seahawks, who have won their last six meetings with the Nor'easters, return to action next Wednesday (April 7) when they head to Bristol, R.I. for a TCCC matchup with in-state rival Roger Williams University.
