Seahawks roll past Colonels, 17-9

MILTON, Mass. - Salve Regina scored 12 first half goals enroute to a 17-9 victory over host Curry College on Saturday in Milton. With the win the Seahawks improve to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Colonels fall to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

 

The Seahawks took an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter and then outscored the Colonels 9-2 in the second period. Curry would put three tallies up in the third to Salve's one and three more in the fourth but the Seahawks would get four more of their own for the 17-9 win.

 

Sophomore Evan Hammersley (Lynnfield, Mass.) led the Colonels in points scoring two goals and adding five assists for seven points. Juniors Michael Snyder (Lee, Mass.) and Michael D'Amato(Redding, CT) would both score two goals and junior Kyle Abbott (Ashland, Mass.), sophomore Sean Gallagher (Topsfield, Mass.) and freshman Joseph Natale (Haverhill, Mass.) each scored one.

 

Sophomore Chris Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Seahawks with six goals and two assists. Salve Regina got goals from eight other players. Sophomore Brendan Carroll (Garden City, N.Y.) had three goals and an assist and junior Evan Gates (Ridge, N.J.) had two goals. Seniors Ryan Comerford (Merrimack, N.H.), Cody LaFerriere (Brookside, N.J), Nick Clark (Rye, N.H.) and Ben Caron (East Longmeadow, Mass.), junior Brendan Rooney (West Newton, Mass.) and sophomore William Milsop (Deering, N.H.) each had one.

 

The Colonels only outshot the Seahawks 37-36. Salve Regina had 22 groundballs to Currys 20.

 

Junior Gordon Holmes (Brookfield, Conn.) played in net for the Colonels making 16 saves. In net for Salve Regina for the first 53:55 minutes was freshman Chris Connors (Garden City, N.Y.), who made eight saves in the win and junior Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.) made two saves in 6:05 minutes played.

 

The Colonels will host Roger Williams University, April 21 for a TCCC match-up at 6:30 p.m. Salve Regina will travel to Endicott on April 22 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.
