Salve Regina bests Buffalo State in tourney championship

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo State men's hockey team fell in the championship game of the Buffalo State Bengals Classic on Saturday evening, losing 7-2 to Salve Regina.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Anthony Morin (Greenfield Center, NY/Utica Jr. Comets) netted a goal for the second consecutive game.
  • Jake Meure (Fremont, CA/Ogden Mustangs) scored his first collegiate goal.
  • Aidan LaValley (Champlain, NY/Vermont Lumberjacks) had a pair of assists, while Michael McCosh (Glendale, AZ/New Mexico Ice Wolves) and Joe Glamos (Balwinsville, NY/New Jersey Titans) had one assist apiece.
  • Marcus Cumberworth (Surrey, BC/Olds Grizzlys) stopped 22 shots, while Drew Doran (Orchard Park, NY/Utica University) had 11 saves in relief.  

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salve Regina struck for the opening goal on the power play just six minutes in on a shot from the right circle.
  • The Bengals responded, taking advantage of a 5-on-3, as Morin ripped a shot into the corner of the net off a wrist shot from inside the right circle.
  • Salve Regina scored five times in the second period, including a pair of shorthanded goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the second intermission.
  • Meure scored his first goal as Bengal just before the midway point of the third period, stick-handling past a defenseman, and ripping a wrist shot into the back of the net.
  • The Seahawks wrapped up the scoring right at the halfway point of the period to seal the victory.

  • Seth Benson netted a hat trick for the Seahawks, while Matthew Faucet scored twice.
