Clapton headed to SPHL

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior forward Colin Clapton (Canton, Mass.) has signed a professional contract with the Evansville Thunderbolts of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

Clapton played three seasons at Salve Regina after transferring from Hobart in 2016. Clapton totaled 26 goals and 20 assists for 46 points in his three seasons as a Seahawk.

"I am very excited and proud of Colin," said Salve Regina head coach Zech Klann.  "He has worked extremely hard for this opportunity to play professional hockey and I look forward to watching him grow as a player.  His infectious attitude, and work ethic makes him the ultimate teammate and he will be greatly missed by all the staff."

He becomes the eighth player in program history to sign a professional contract joining John Scorica '15, Peter Gintoli '16, Alex Pompeo '16, Chase Hatcher '17, Nick Owen '17, Evan Schultz '17, and classmate Blake Wojtala '19. Clapton and Hatcher are reunited on the Thunderbolts after playing together in 2016-17 for Salve Regina, and Hatcher serving as an assistant coach for the Seahawks in 2017-18.

The Thunderbolts were founded in 2016 and play at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
