Seahawks fall in shootout with Falcons

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Concordia University of Wisconsin men's ice hockey team edged Salve Regina University with a 2-0 victory in a shootout after being tied 4-4 through 65 minutes at the Pathfinder Bank Hockey Classic.

The Seahawks never led in the game, initially falling begind 2-0 before Tyler Carangelo (Hamden, Conn.) scored on the powerplay early in the second period. The Falcons struck for their second powerplay goal of the game six minutes later to restablish a two-goal lead, only to have Kyle Moore (Cumming, Ga.) get the goal right back three minutes after. 

Later in the second Nick Guerra scored the third powerplay goal of the game for the Falcons and the Seahawks found themselves down two scores headed to the third period.

Moore found the back of the net again late in the third then Carangelo evened the score just 1:15 later. 

The Seahawks outshot the Falcons 34-29 and 3-1 in ovcertime but the score remained tied and the game went to a shootout to decide a winner. The Seahawks went scoreless giving the Falcons third place at the tournament.

Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) made 29 saves in the game to fall to 7-4-2 in net on the season.

For his efforts over the weekend Carangelo was named to the All-Tournament team.

Salve Regina (8-4-2, 6-1-1 CCC) hosts Morrisville on Friday, Janaury 11, at 7:35 p.m.
