NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team hosts Nichols College in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
Salve Regina opened the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason last weekend as the number one seed and held servce at home against Western New England University. The Seahawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and exploded for four goals in the third period to pull away with an 8-1 victory.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • The Seahawks, which are one of three CCC teams currently ranked in the national polls, sit at No. 4 in both the D3hockey.com Men's Top 15 and the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll. 
  • The Seahawks were ranked first in the East Region by the NCAA.
  • The Seahawks went 7-1 against ranked teams this season.
  • Jack Billings, Nick Cyr, Danny Eruzione, Vincenzo Renda, and Blake Wojtala represented the Seahawks on the CCC All-Conference squad.
  • Wojtala was named the Goaltender of the Year while first-year head coach Zech Klann was named Coach of the Year. 
  • Wojtala, the programs all-time leader in wins, continues to add to his single season win record with an 18-4-2 record in the net this season. 
  • Jack Billings, who already has set a new program mark for points in a single season, set a new program record for assists in a season (25), topping Evan Schultz's previous mark of 24 assists.
  • Billings is also one goal away from tying the single season record in program history.
  • The Seahawks claimed the 2016 ECAC Northeast Championship (the first in program history).

BISON BLOG

  • The Bison earned a 4-3 road victory last weekend to upset fourth seeded Curry College in the CCC quarterfinals.
  • After falling behind 2-0 the Bison scored three unanswered goals to take the lead into the third period.
  • Zachary White scored for the Colonels to tie the game, but Matthew Menta scored the game-winning goal with 3:32 remaining in regulation to lift the Bison to victory.
  • The Bison advance to the conference semifinals for the seventh consecutive season.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The Bison own a 20-14-4 record in the all-time series however the Seahawks have gone 3-2-1 in the last six meetings.
  • The teams meet for the third time in the last four postseasons.
  • Nichols claimed the ECAC Northeast Championship over the Seahawks in 2015 by a 3-0 final, then the Seahawks defeated the Bison by that same score in the seminfinals on their way to the 2016 ECAC Northeast crown.
  • The Seahawks swept this season's regular season meetings, 4-0 and 2-0 respectively.

The winner advances to the Finals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships.
