Seahawks ranked fifth in both national polls

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team has been ranked fifth in the nation by D3Hockey.com and USCHO.com in the latest polls.

This is the highest ranking ever in program history from either poll.

Salve Regina locked up the CCC Regular-Season Championship with a pair of shutouts against Nichols last week. First the Seahawks scored four goals in the second period to break a scoreless tie on their way to a 4-0 road win on Friday (Feb. 9). Then Timothy Sweeney (Hanover, Mass.) tipped home a lose puck to give the Seahawks the lead late in the third period of a 2-0 home victory on Sunday (Feb. 11). The shutouts were the seventh and eighth of netminder Blake Wojtala's career, adding to his program record.

The Seahawks (19-4-2, 14-2-2), continue to add to their program record for wins in a season and earned the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). They will host eighth seeded Western New England on Saturday February 17 in the quarterfinals.
