SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England University ice hockey team fell to visiting Salve Regina University, 8-0, this evening in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast action at Smead Arena.

All three Western New England goaltenders  that dressed saw action tonight, as freshman Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) made 19 saves, senior Austin Keiser (Danwoody, Ga.) finished with ten, and sophomore Scott Brown (Sewickley, Pa.) recorded 14. Each goaltender had 20 minutes of playing time for a combined 43 saves on 51 shots. Gollmer got the start in net, falling to 1-3-1 on the season with the setback. Salve Regina junior goaltender Alexander Devine (Hampton, N.H.) stopped all 21 Golden Bear shots, improving his record to 2-2-1 on the season.

The Seahawks opened up the scoring 9:38 into the first period. After a save by Gollmer, Evan Schultz (Durham, N.H) picked up the rebound and sent a pass from the bottom of the right circle to the top left of the slot where Joseph Yeadon(Burlington, Mass.) was positioned. Yeadon was able to beat a scrambling Gollmer for his fifth of the season.

Nearly seven minutes later, the Seahawks struck again. Yeadon received a pass in the neutral zone from Zane Popilock (Collegeville, Pa.). Yeadon fired a shot from the top left of the slot which went wide but Schultz was waiting on the doorstep for a rebound off of the end board. He was able to beat Gollmer as he was sliding across the crease to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Bears had a chance to make it a 2-1 game late in the first but were unable to convert on a short-handed breakaway by junior Josh Twietmeyer (Weston, Fla.), who sent his shot wide.

The Seahawks would end up finding the back of the net again late in the first, before going up 5-0 in the second and tacking on three more goals in the third.

Western New England (2-17-3, 1-11-1 ECAC NE) will look to bounce back on Saturday night at Johnson & Wales, while Salve Regina (12-9-1, 7-5-1 ECAC NE) heads home to host Curry College on Sunday February 14 for Senior Day at the Abbey.
