Summary
Freshman goaltender Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) stopped 32 shots and three different players scored as the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team defeated Western New England University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina entered today owning a 14-9-1 record all-time in the series. The Seahawks improve to 15-9-1 all-time versus the Golden Bears and have won the last six meetings.

1 – Salve Regina sophomore Evan Schmidbauer (San Diego, Calif.) assisted on the first goal of the game then scored in the second period to break the 1-1 tie and won a game high 16 of 22 face-offs.
2 – Salve Regina freshman Blake Wojtala stopped 32 shots for a .969 save percentage to earn his second victory.
3 – Salve Regina freshman Shaun Patry (Penfiled, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game, then assisted on Scmidbauers goal.

Key Stat of the Game
The Seahawks outshot the Golden Bears 44-33 including 35-13 through two periods and won 49 face-offs.

Turning Point
Still just a one goal game, 2-1 in the third, Joseph Yeadon (Burlington, Mass.) carried the puck through the neutral zone and sprinted down the left wing, snapping a shot on net from the face-off circle that beat Golden Bear netminder Austin Keiser (Danwoody, Ga.) over his shoulder, giving Salve Regina its two-goal cushion. 

Quick Hits

  • Keiser made 41 saves in net for the Golden Bears.
  • Evan Antisdale (Fairfield, Conn.) scored the only goal for the Golden Bears on a nifty bankhand move to the net, flipping the puck over Wojtala's shoulder to tie the game 1-1 in the first.
  • Neither team could convert on the powerplay, each going 0-5 with the man advantage.
  • Salve Regina earned it's first home victory of the season and has now won two straight.
