NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team will begin its 2014-15 campaign on November 1 at home versus Neumann (4:35 p.m.).

The Seahawks have played four previous games against Neumann going 2-2 versus the Knights. Last season the Seahawks lost 6-5 in overtime to the Knights in Aston, Pa.

Salve Regina went 11-15 overall and 9-5 (ECAC) last season qualifying for the playoffs, but losing in the quarterfinal round to Curry 4-1.

The Seahawks will face strong non-conference opponents this season, including two Division II teams, but head coach Andy Boschetto is focused on improving his team and building on the success from last season.

"Yes we have some highly touted teams on the schedule but for us it's focusing on the present and getting better," said Boschetto. "We have a great opportunity this year to do some great things. With that said it is up to us to show up and focus on the process.  We will have adversity at some point, so being prepared will allow us to handle it and move forward".

Part of that adversity will begin with playing six of nine games on the road to open the season. After beginning the season at the Abbey, Salve Regina will travel to face Stonehill on Thursday November 6 (7 p.m.). The team then travels to Boston to face Suffolk on November 8 (8:10 p.m.) in the first of five conference games for the Seahawks.

Last season the Seahawks split their games against the Rams with the home teams winning each. Salve Regina won 6-3 in Portsmouth on November 9, 2013 then lost 5-2 in Boston on February 4, 2014. The Seahawks have gone 4-1-1 versus Suffolk in the last six meetings.

The Seahawks round out the fall semester with a home game against familiar non-conference opponent Franklin Pierce on December 5 at 7:35 p.m. It is the only game Salve Regina will play in the month of December this year. Salve Regina has gone 10-3-1 against the Ravens all-time.  The Seahawks have gone 6-0-1 versus the Ravens in the last seven meetings. Last season the Seahawks grabbed a 3-2 victory on home ice on November 2, 2013.

Salve Regina will start 2015 with five straight non-conference games. The first three matches will be played at home in Portsmouth. Salve Regina hosts Skidmore (Jan. 2) then Castleton (Jan 3.) in the first back-to-back of the season. The Seahawks next host Daniel Webster (Jan. 10) before hitting the road for another back-to-back with Elmira (Jan. 16) and Hobart (Jan. 17) for the final non-conference games of the season.

The Seahawks then host Nichols on January 24 at 7:35 p.m. before travelling to Johnson & Wales (Jan. 29) and Wentworth (Jan. 31).

Salve Regina will then play four of its final six games on home ice at the Portsmouth Abbey. The Seahawks will host Curry on Saturday February 7, 2015 at 2:35 p.m. That game will serve as senior day for the class of 2015. There are six seniors on this years squad. Defenseman Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) goalie Frankie McCormick (Peabody, Mass.), defenseman Scott McMenimen (Exeter, N.H.), forward Michael Naso (Londonderry, N.H.), forward John Scorcia (Hudson, Fla.), and goalie Jake Williams (Montreal, Quebec) comprise the class of 2015.

Scorcia currently ranks fourth in program history with 78 career points. He would need 24 points this season to become the programs all-time leader. Billy Baker (Milton, Mass.) currently holds the record with 101 career points (45 goals, 56 assists) in his four years at Salve Regina (1999-2003).
Salve Regina wraps up its regular season at home against Johnson & Wales on Sunday February 22, 2015 at 4:35 p.m.
