Six Seahawks land on All-Conference teams

CENTERVILLE, MASS. – The Salve Regina men's ice hockey team placed a program-best six players on the ECAC Northeast All-Conference teams, as announced by the league office last Friday.

Sophomores Marc Biggs (Plano, Texas) and Lucas Sousa (Billerica, Mass.) picked up a pair of second team honors while junior John Scorcia (Hudson, Fla.) and sophomores David Chiokadze (Langhorne, Pa.) and Peter Gintoli (Monroe, Conn.) earned honorable mention honors. Freshman Jonathan Felteau (Peabody, Mass.) earned a spot on the All-Rookie team to round out the all-conference selections.

Biggs, a repeat All-Conference player from last year, finished the season ranking second on the team in scoring with 22 points (8g, 14a), including a shorthanded goal and two game-winners. Biggs is eighth in the league in scoring and eighth in assists this season. In the league, Biggs finished the season tied for third in scoring with 14 points (5g, 9a) in the conference. Biggs' nine assists ranked his fourth in conference play.

Sousa, also an all-conference selection last year, finished the year with 10 points (3g, 7a) as a defenseman. Sousa currently ranks eighth in the league in defenseman scoring. In the league, Sousa finished eighth in defensemen scoring with six points (2g, 4a). As one of the best defensemen in the league, Sousa anchored a defense that dropped its goals against average from 3.88 last year to 3.56 this year. Salve Regina boasted a 80.6 pentaly kill percentage and scored six shorthanded goals.  

Scorcia earned a spot on the honorable mention team this year after being selected to the second team last season. Scorcia finished the year with 18 points and a team-leading 11 goals on the season. The junior was fifth in the league in goal scoring this year. Scorcia led the team and the conference with two shorthanded goals this season. In his career, the forward has 78 points, ranking him fourth all time at Salve Regina. 

Chiokadze picked up his first all-conference honor this season as he posted a 2.97 goals against average and a .904 save percentage over 544:57. Chiokadze finished the year with a 5-4 overall record and 254 saves. Chiokadze's 2.97 GAA set a program record for best GAA in a single season at Salve Regina. His save percentage is fifth best in a single season for a Seahawk. With his 254 saves, Chiokadze now has 617 in his career, cracking the top-10 in career saves at Salve Regina. Chiokadze has a career 3.40 GAA, the best in program history, and a .897 save percentage, also the top career mark at Salve Regina. Against conference opponents, Chiokadze posted a 1.40 GAA and a .958 save percentage and recorded his first career shut out against Nichols earlier this year.

Gintoli earned his first all-conference nod this season as he led the team with 26 points (10g, 16a). Gintoli led the team with 16 assists and was sixth in the league in scoring. Gintoli was ninth in the league with 10 goals and fourth in assists. Against conference teams, Gintoli was third in the league in scoring with 18 points (8g, 10a) and sixth in assists.

Felteau rounds out the all-conference selections for Salve Regina with a spot on the All-Rookie team.  Felteau finished his freshman season with the Seahawks with 17 points (8g, 9a) and was third in the league in freshman scoring. Felteau had 10 powerplay points, including five goals, which ranked his fifth in the league.

Salve Regina finished the season 11-15, tying the most wins in a single season in program history. The Seahawks 9-5 mark and number three seed in the conference is the best in program history.
