PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Marc Biggs (Dallas, Texas) scored his sixth goal of the season with just 31 seconds left in the Johnson & Wales' power play to open the third period to lift the Salve Regina men's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over the Wildcats at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

The win for Salve Regina not only gives them sole possession of first in the ECAC Northeast with a 5-2 recond but snaps an 10-game losing streak while halting a nine-game winning streak for the Wildcats.

Biggs took control of the puck past the blue line with the Seahawks were short handed and went top shelf with it to give Salve Regina a 2-1 lead with just over 18 minutes left in regulation. The Wildcats, who move to 4-3 in the conference had plenty of shots down the stretch, but freshman goalie Alexander Devine (Hampton, N.H.) turned away 10 shots in the final 20 minutes. JWU had a final power play of the game with 3:44 to play, but junior John Scorcia (Hudson, Fla.) blocked the Wildcats' only shot of the extra man chance.

JWU got on the board first when junior Alex Porrier (Rutland, Vt.) put in a pass from freshman Drew Kariofiles (Cincinnati, Ohio) at the 12:31 mark.  The Wildcats took the one goal lead into the locker room at the first intermission after out shooting Salve Regina by a 10-8 margin.

The Seahawks battled back and kept the Wildcats in check as sophomore Lucas Sousa (Billerica, Mass.) kotted the game at 1-1 with 5:54 left in the second period. Sousa collected a pass from senior William Gomolinski (Western Springs, Ill.) and sophomore Liam Centrella (Andover, Mass.) for his third goal of the season.

Devine stopped 25 shots in the net in the win for Salve Regina freshman Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) tallied 31 saves in the setback for JWU.

Salve Regina returns home to face Wentworth on Saturday at the Portsmouth Abbey at 4:35 p.m.
