Bambury, Burns, Russell named captains for 2009-10 season

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's ice hockey coach Andy LeColst has announced that seniors Nate Burns (Sandwich, Mass.) and Patrick Bambery (Braintree, Mass.), along with junior Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, Vt.), will serve as team captains for the 2009-10 season.

Russell finished second on the team in scoring last season with 19 points (10-9-19). He potted four power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and recorded five multi-point games. He reeled off a six-game point-scoring streak from Nov. 29, 2008 through Jan. 6, registering seven points (4-3-7) during that stretch.

Bambery tallied 11 goals and 17 points, which placed him in a three-way tie for third on the squad. He notched five power-play markers and had a pair of three-game scoring steaks during the season. Bambery registered a season-high three points on two occasions - at Western New England (1-2-3) on Dec. 9, 2008, and again against Worcester St. (2-1-3) on Feb. 16.

Burns dished out six helpers from the blue line, which tied him for second amongst defensemen in scoring at SRU. Also a standout lacrosse player, Burns recorded a pair of assists at Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 27, and finished the campaign with 26 penalty minutes.

All three played appeared in all 22 games last season for Salve Regina (3-17-2, 3-13-1 ECAC in 2008-09).

Salve Regina opens its season on Friday, Nov. 13 when it travels to the University of New England for a 7 p.m. contest.
