Bio

Sean Foster begins his 22nd season as head men's basketball coach at Salve Regina.

Foster led the Seahawks to an overall mark of 21-7 in 2021-22, matching the program record for most victories in a season. Ten years prior, Foster guided the team to both the CCC Championship finals and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship finals during the 2011-12 campaign and was honored as the CCC Coach of the Year.

In addition to his coaching duties, Foster also serves as the department's scheduling coordinator and handles game management duties. He also previously served as an admissions counselor at Salve Regina from 2000-2002.

Before assuming the head coaching position, Foster spent three previous seasons as an assistant at SRU, during which time the Seahawks captured the 1999-2000 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season crown.

Prior to his arrival at Salve Regina, Foster spent one season as an assistant coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He helped the Leopards capture a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship with a school-record 22 wins and a berth in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England men's basketball tournament. His previous experience also includes working as an operations administrator for Fidelity Investments.

A 1997 graduate of Salve Regina, Foster played three years for the Seahawks after transferring from Westbrook College (Maine), where the team won the Mayflower Conference with a 30-5 record and advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. He helped the Seahawks advance to the NCAA Tournament in 1994-95 after posting a 20-8 record and capturing the CCC championship.

A Dean's List student at Salve Regina, Foster earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and received both the University's Sportsmanship Award and the Commonwealth Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award following his senior season.

A native of Foxboro, Mass., Foster resides in Newport with his wife, Jennifer, who serves as head coach of Salve Regina field hockey. The coaching couple have three children - Addison, Garrett, and Teagan.
