Bison best Seahawks in CCC men's basketball

DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) poured in 32 points to propel the Nichols College men's basketball team to a 91-60 win over Salve Regina University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday night at the Nichols Athletic Center.

Echevarria connected on 11 of his 15 field goal attempts – including 8-of-12 from downtown – and also notched three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Senior Devin Stallings (Hartford, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and also blocked three shots, while freshman DeAnte Bruton (New London, Conn.) registered 14 points, eight boards, and five dimes.

Senior Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds in 35 minutes for the Seahawks. Sophomore Isaiah Bowman (Roxbury, Mass.) came off the bench to score 13 points while junior Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) scored 10 points.

Nichols shot 46 percent – making 15 of its 36 three-pointers – and held a 50-43 edge on the glass. Defensively, the Bison held the Seahawks to 33 percent shooting (21-of-63) and scored 18 points off turnovers.

Echevarria rattled home four 3-pointers in the first half and help the Bison build a 38-21 halftime lead. Stallings, meanwhile, compiled six points, eight boards, and two blocks in the opening stanza. Morton paced the Seahawks with eight points.

The Bison opened up a 30-point cushion following a triple from Echevarria at 11:33 of the second half. The lead swelled to as many as 34 after Bruton canned a three at the 3:43 mark of the half.

All-Time Series
Tonight's contest marked the 50th all-time meeting between Salve Regina University and Nichols College. The Bison have now won eight in a row against the Seahawks to even the all-time series at 25.
