SEAHAWK MEN'S BASKETBALL RESULTS

Salve Regina 73, Suffolk 71
Newport, R.I. – Rodgers Recreation Center
Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Summary
Salve Regina University senior guard David Hanson (Stockton, England) hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer to give the Seahawks a 73-71 victory over visiting Rams of Suffolk University. Suffolk had tied the score at 71-71 on a layup from its senior guard Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) leaving four seconds on the clock. Salve Regina junior Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) inbounded under his defensive basket to junior Connor Costello (Southborough, Mass.) who found Hanson just beyond halfcourt in front of the Seahawk bench. Series and Streaks
Salve Regina and Suffolk compete in men's basketball for the first time since 2009. Suffolk leads the all-time series, 12-10, but Salve Regina has now won seven of the last nine meetings.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina sophomore Bryce Boggs (Hyde Park, Mass.) - recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
2 – Salve Regina senior David Hanson (Stockton, England) - scored 15 points including the game-winning layup at the buzzer.
3 – Suffolk senior Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) - had a game-high 23 points in 21 minutes on nine of 11 field goals including five of six 3-pointers.

Key Stat of the Game
Both teams made nine free throws, but Salve Regina had more than twice as many attempts from the charity stripe than Suffolk. If the Seahawks had made half of their attempts from the line, Hanson's heroics would not have been necessary. [SRU - 9 for 23 (39.1%); SUF - 9 for 11 (81.8%)]

Turning Point
In a two-point victory the final basket becomes the turning point. Costello received the pass from Bates uncontested, and then zipped it ahead to Hanson who made a leaping grab. Hanson started his drive to the hoop with two ticks remaining and the Rams' defender tried to get around the backside but was unable to impede Hanson.
