CENTREVILLE, Mass. - Salve Regina University men's basketball (17-10) returns to action on Wednesday (7 p.m.) when it returns to the ECAC New England Championships for the first time since 2012. The fourth-seeded Seahawks will host fifth-seeded Lasell College, of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, in a quarterfinal match at the Rodgers Recreation Center (7 p.m.).

Since opening in 2000, the Rodgers Recreation Center has served as a host site for the ECAC men's basketball championships two other times (two games in 2002, and one in 2012).

The Seahawks are 2-1 all-time on their home court in the ECAC men's basketball championships, beating Husson College Eagles in Newport, 78-71, on February 29, 2012. Salve Regina reached the finals as the tournament's No. 2 seed that season before falling at WPI in the title game.

Tickets for Wednesday night's first-round action are $5 for adults, $2 for children under 12, and free admission for Salve Regina and Lasell students with ID.

Salve Regina has faced the Lasers three times prior to Wednesday's match-up, in three different locations. Each result was a loss for the Seahawks who have never faced Lasell in Newport. The last meeting between the two programs was five years ago in first-round ECAC action at Boston, Lasers winning 89-84.

Salve Regina last played on Thursday night at Nichols College. The Bison, seeded No. 1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships and this event, ended the Seahawks' bid for a conference title with an 83-80 overtime decision in Dudley, Mass.

The Seahawks have three players averaging in double-figure scoring - sophomore Barrett Hanlon (Hopkinton, Mass.) and seniors Patrick Dinneen (Medfield, Mass.), Jeff Bielefeld (Littleton, Mass.). Hanlon, a first-team all-conference guard, has posted double-doubles in four of his last seven games since returning from an injury.

The Lasers are led by the high-scoring duo of senior Brandon Ganesh (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Clyde Niba (Atlanta, Ga.) at 21.0 and 19.0 points per game, respectively.

The game will be broadcast on Salve Regina men's basketball Ustream.tv channel, with Andrew Pezzelli and Leon Bayles providing the call.
