NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior guard Patrick Dinneen (Medfield, Mass.) swished a 3-pointer at the 17:00 mark of the second half for his 1,000th career point, but it was his 1,007th point coming on a layup with seven seconds remaining that gave the Seahawks a 57-56 win over visiting Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

Salve Regina (12-5; 7-3 CCC) sweeps the season series from Roger Williams (5-12; 4-6 CCC), and improves to 36-26 in the all-time series with the Hawks.

Dinneen and freshman Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) both had nine points in the first half for Salve Regina which went into the break with a double-digit lead for the third-straight game, 30-20.

Senior captain Jeff Bielefeld (Littleton, Mass.) had a layup and free throw at 19:11 in the second half for Salve Regina's largest lead of the game, 13 points (35-22).

Josh Syska (Peabody, Mass.) and Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) scored the next two baskets for Roger Williams before Dinneen's 3-pointer three minutes into the half gave the Seahawks their double-digit lead back, 38-26. A pair of freshmen traded 3-pointers for their respective teams - Zac Campbell (Woodbridge, Conn.) for the Hawks and Tommy Keyes (Berkley, Mass.) for the Seahawks.

Salve Regina led by nine (52-43) after a Bates layup at 8:02 on a nice feed from Bielefeld. A scoreless two minutes ensued before Roger Williams started a 10-0 run at 6:02 with a steal by Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) who fed Palumbo for a layup and free throw.

Syska trimmed the deficit to four (52-48) with just over five minutes remaining. Chris Bardwell (North Andover, Mass.), who scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, had a turnaround jumper to make it a two-point game at 4:20. A minute later he made one of two free throws and the score read, 52-51 for Salve Regina. Bardwell's layup with just over three minutes remaining gave the Hawks their first lead of the second half.

Bates' 3-pointer from the far corner reclaimed the lead for the Seahawks with over two minutes remaining. Dinneen missed the front end of a one-and-bonus with 53 seconds remaining, but Bielefeld grabbed the offensive rebound. Bardwell got the carom on the next Seahawk miss and Wasik pushed it up to Palumbo who found Syska for a 3-pointer putting Roger Williams up one, 56-55, with 13 seconds left.

After a Seahawk timeout, Scott St. Lawrence (Litchfield, N.H.) inbounded the ball to Dinneen at three-quarter court and Dinneen went directly to the basket for a layup with seven seconds on the clock. Palumbo worked the ball up the court for Roger Williams but the Hawks neglected to call a timeout and the clock expired without a shot.

Syska (14 points) and Bardwell were the only Hawks scoring in double figures. Bates had his second double-double of the season with 18 points, on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, and 14 rebounds. Bielefeld added 13 points for the Seahawks who play on Wednesday against Wentworth.

Roger Williams hosts Nichols College on Wednesday.
