Tale of the Tape - Salve Regina v. Roger Williams

SALVE REGINA VS. ROGER WILLIAMS
  • Salve Regina leads, 35-26, in a series that began in 1982.
  • The Seahawks have won the last four meetings including a come-from-behind victory last December in Bristol.
  • The game was fairly close early on, with seven ties and four lead changes in the first half alone. Salve Regina led by as many as nine in the opening period, with Jeff Bielefeld laying in a basket with 6:06 left to give the Seahawks a 32-23 lead.
  • The Hawks pulled away from Salve Regina early on in the second half, using a 14-4 run over the first four minutes to take a commanding 12-point lead (54-42). Salve Regina chipped away at the deficit but the Hawks continued to remain in front for most of the period, with its largest lead a 72-58 advantage with 7:30 to play.
  • Barrett Hanlon (team-high 21 points) put in a crucial basket after a Hawk miss to give the Seahawks a four-point lead. Salve Regina sank four of its final six free throws to help seal the game.
  • Salve Regina has faced Roger Williams more than any other school in men's basketball; this is the 62nd meeting.
LAST TIME OUT - WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 63, SALVE REGINA 58 - JANUARY 23, 2014
  • Salve Regina has become unwillingly familiar with second-half collapses in its last two games, surviving an overtime battle with Curry last Saturday after a 17-point halftime cushion before scoring only 15 points in the second half against the Golden Bears on Thursday, letting a 12-point halftime lead slip away.
  • Patrick Dinneen led all scorers with 22 points and closed within a dozen of the 1,000-point milestone.
  • Jeff Bielefeld led all players with his nine rebounds, and he added 13 points.
  • Western New England opened the second half on a 20-2 run.
LAST TIME OUT - ROGER WILLIAMS 68, GORDON 52 - JANUARY 22, 2014
  • Roger Williams ended Gordon's five-game win streak which included a one-point victory at Salve Regina two weeks ago.
  • Zac Campbell had the best game of his young career, scoring a game-high 22 points to lead the upstart Hawks.
  • Ryan Palumbo was 10-for-10 from the charity stripe and finished with 12 total points. Joseph Henry was the only other Hawks' player in double figures with 10 points, making four of his five attempts.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • Ryan Palumbo ranks third in the league in assists (3.6 apg) and leads the Hawks in scoring with 14.5 points per game.

  • Salve Regina's largest margin of victory ever (51 points) came on February 12, 1995, in a 124-73 win against New England College at Rogers High School gymnasium (Newport, R.I.).
  • The Seahawks have outscored their opponents in the Rodgers Recreation Center by 53 points (414-361), suffering a one-point loss 10 days ago to Gordon College (71-70) and a five-point setback to Western New England (63-58) on Thursday.
