Seahawks match best start ever (4-0)

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Senior Patrick Dinneen (Medfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 21 points while sophomore Barrett Hanlon (Hopkinton, Mass.) added 19 points as Salve Regina used a 16-1 second-half run and remained unbeaten with a 64-48 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.

Salve Regina equals its best start ever with a 4-0 record (also started 4-0 in 2000) while the Bears drop to 1-4 on the season.

Dinneen and Hanlon each had 13 points in the second half as the Seahawks outscored Coast Guard 38-23 over the final 20 minutes.

Salve Regina led 26-25 at halftime. The Seahawks led by as many as five (13-8 and 20-15) in the opening half.

Coast Guard had its largest lead of the game 36-32 with 14:36 remaining, but the Bears next field goal would not be until 6:58 was left as Salve used a 16-1 run to take a 48-37 lead with 8:43 left.

Hanlon and senior Jeff Bielefeld (Littletown, Mass.) led Salve with eight rebounds each while Dinneen finished with seven boards in the win.

Salve Regina dominated the paint outscoring the Bears 38-16 down low while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor (24-47) and four of 12 from behind the arc. The Seahawks outrebounded Coast Guard 40-27.

Coast Guard shot 30.9 percent from the field (17-55) and hit 7 of 22 from 3-point range. The Bears were just 8 of 35 from the floor in the second half (22.9 percent).

Senior John Benedict led Coast Guard with a season-high 11 points while junior David Anderson finished with ten points. Sophomores Ryan McNeil and Mark Krebs had six rebounds each to lead the Bears.

Senior Devonte Weems had a game-high four assists as he recorded the 200th of his career finishing the night with 202 career assists.
