NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's basketball coach Sean Foster '97 has announced two seniors as his team captains for 2013-14: Jeff Bielefeld (Littleton, Mass.) and Joshua Hohlfelder (Noank, Conn.).

"Our staff is excited to have such dynamic leadership going into the 2013-14 season," says Foster, in his 12th year at the helm. "Jeff and Josh are tremendous people, excellent students and hard-working athletes. Their positive example will be extremely beneficial to our younger players. We are excited to see the direction in which their leadership can take us this year."

Foster is joined on the sidelines by two new assistants after Alick Furtick '02 took the head post at his former high school, Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, in Groton, Conn. Matt Adams and Tyler Hundley both competed for institutions in the Little East Conference (LEC) at Keene State College and Eastern Connecticut State University, respectively.

Bielefeld and Hohlfelder have brought the Seahawks to two Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) finals appearances, winning the title in 2011 as freshmen before advancing to the NCAA Division III Championships. With a win-loss record of 51-33 (.607) over their three seasons, the senior captains have also contributed to a program-best 21-win season in 2011-12.

Both captains earned academic honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as members of the Honors Court.

Salve Regina has won more games (51) the last three seasons than in any other three-year span in program history.

Salve Regina opens its 2013-14 campaign on Friday, November 15, at Johnson & Wales University (7 p.m.) in a non-league contest. The Seahawks have their home-opener on Tuesday, November 19, when they host Connecticut College at the Rodgers Recreation Center (7:30 p.m.).
