Hess hoists Engineers past Seahawks, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 7, 2019) -- Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, N.H.) scored two of WPI's three goals in a 3-0 victory over visiting Salve Regina University in a non-conference field hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

With the win, WPI improves to 3-0 while the Seahawks dip to 2-1.

Shortly after the halftime break, Hess threaded traffic after receiving the ball from Shannon Hynes (Auburn, Mass.) at 35:29. Just over two minutes later, Carlee Irish (Saratoga Springs N.Y.) tipped in a feed from Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) for the 2-0 advantage. Hess then carried the ball into the circle and sent a blast past the keeper for what proved to be the 3-0 final at 39:42.

Ali Gannon (Fremont, N.H.) was called upon to make a pair of stops while Jackie Cardin (Manchester, N.H.) and Kelsey Wilkinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) each collected a defensive save.

Casey Febus (Souderton, Pa.) totaled 11 stops and Kate Foley (Longmeadow, Mass.) chipped in with a defensive stop for the guests. Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) accounted for six of the team's six shots overall and four on-net. Grace Parker (Simsbury, Conn.) also had a shot on-goal.
