NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University field hockey (1-3, 0-1 CCC) plays its second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game of the season when it hosts Western New England University (0-4, 0-1 CCC) at Gaudet Field (1 p.m.).

LAST TIME OUT
Nichols College junior midfielder Erin Kelley (Palmer, Mass.) scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Bison to a 6-3 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey against Salve Regina University at Gaudet Field.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Senior Ally Daly and Emma Gaudio along with juniors Ashley Cody and Olivia St. Jean will handle the captains duties in 2018.
  • Ally Daly made four saves in her first collegiate start, then a career-high 13 saves against Worcester State.
  • Ashley Cody leads the Seahawks with four goals scored in her first three games.
  • Eliza Timms scored her first collegiate goal on Sunday that gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead at halftime; Timms added a second half goal in a loss to Nichols on Tuesday.
  • Emma Gaudio had a pair of defensive saves for Salve Regina in win over Thomas.
  • Tori Bickel scored her first two goals of the season, both in the first half against Nichols, and tied the Bison at 2-2.
  • Jennifer Foster has 99 career wins on the sidelines for field hockey; the 12th-year head coach also guided women's lacrosse for eight seasons.

GOLDEN BEAR GOSSIP

  • The Golden Bears are led by Mary Clare Snediker, who begins her fourth season at the helm of the field hockey program in 2018.
  • Despite losing last year's top three scorers to graduation, Western New England returns junior Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Haley Daigneault (Longmeadow, Mass.), who combined for 29 points in 2017.
  • Seniors Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.) and Leah Kelemen (Bartlett, N.H.) will also play key roles for the Golden Bears.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina University leads Western New England, 14-9, after sweeping the season series last year. First, the Seahawks won 4-1 in Springfield, Mass., and then blanked the Golden Bears, 3-0, at Gaudet.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Salve Regina ends its five-game homestand and goes on the road for the first time in 2018 with a three-game road trip starting at Gordon College on Tuesday, September 18 (6 p.m.). Western New England hosts Endicott College on Tuesday in Springfield (7 p.m.).
