NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University field hockey earned its first win of 2018 on Sunday, and now hosts Nichols College on Tuesday, September 11, in first Commonweallth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup.

LAST TIME OUT
Salve Regina University junior midfielder Hannah Filiault (Keene, N.H.) scored an overtime game-winning goal on a penalty corner with an assist from sophomore Tori Bickel (Harleysville, Pa.) to give the Seahawk field hockey team its first win of the season, 3-2, 3:55 elapsed in OT, against visiting Thomas College.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Senior Ally Daly and Emma Gaudio along with juniors Ashley Cody and Olivia St. Jean will handle the captains duties in 2018.
  • Ally Daly made four saves in her first collegiate start, then a career-high 13 saves against Worcester State.
  • Ashley Cody leads the Seahawks with four goals scored in her first three games.
  • Eliza Timms scored her first collegiate goal on Sunday that gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead at halftime.
  • Emma Gaudio had a pair of defensive saves for Salve Regina in win over Thomas.
  • Jennifer Foster has 99 career wins on the sidelines for field hockey; the 12th-year head coach also guided women's lacrosse for eight seasons.

NICHOLS NUGGETS

  • Salve Regina head coach Jennifer (Eldredge) Foster earned CCC Rookie of the Year honors in field hockey when she was a freshman at Nichols College. She later transferred to star at Bryant University.
  • Nichols split its first two games of the season, 2-1 decisions both at home, winning against Lasell and losing against Clark.
  • Lizz McKinnon scored the game winner against Lasell, and the only Bison goal against Clark.
  • MacKenzie Snow had a fist-half goal against the Lasers.
  • Brooke Misbach has logged all 140 minutes in goal for the Bison, making 18 saves in two games.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina University leads Nichols, 20-16, in the all-time field hockey series. The teams split last year's meetings, each winning on its home field. Seahawks won 4-1 at Gaudet on Sept. 26, 2017; Bison won 4-3 in Dudley, Mass., on Oct. 25, 2017.
