Summary
Visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute scored the first six goals to take a 6-2 decision over the Salve Regina University field hockey team to begin the 2018 season in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

- WPI sophomore Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) scored twice and dished out two assists.
- WPI freshman Angie Ferro (Northboro, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal and handed out an assist.
- Salve Regina junior Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored both goals for the Seahawks.
Turning Point
The Engineers scored on a long distance shot from Carlee Irish (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) at the buzzer of the first half. Then scored three more unanswered to open the second half to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Quick Hits
- Senior goalkeeper Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, Maine) made one save and allowed one goal in 60:42 of action to pick up the victory for the Engineers. She was replaced by Ali Gannon (Fremont, N.H.) who allowed one goal and did not make a save to close out the game.
- Ally Daly (Peabody, Mass.) started between the pipes for the Seahawks and made four saves while allowing the six goals in the loss.
- WPI held a 24-17 advantage in shots and 10-5 in shots on goal.
- The Seahawks had an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.
- The loss snaps a streak of seven straight season opening victories for the Seahawks.
