Summary
Visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute scored the first six goals to take a 6-2 decision over the Salve Regina University field hockey team to begin the 2018 season in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

  2. WPI freshman Angie Ferro (Northboro, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal and handed out an assist.
  3. Salve Regina junior Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored both goals for the Seahawks.

Turning Point
The Engineers scored on a long distance shot from Carlee Irish (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) at the buzzer of the first half. Then scored three more unanswered to open the second half to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Quick Hits

  • Senior goalkeeper Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, Maine) made one save and allowed one goal in 60:42 of action to pick up the victory for the Engineers. She was replaced by Ali Gannon (Fremont, N.H.) who allowed one goal and did not make a save to close out the game.
  • Ally Daly (Peabody, Mass.) started between the pipes for the Seahawks and made four saves while allowing the six goals in the loss.
  • WPI held a 24-17 advantage in shots and 10-5 in shots on goal.
  • The Seahawks had an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.
  • The loss snaps a streak of seven straight season opening victories for the Seahawks.
