NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team has been announced as a recipient of the 2017 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Award, while eight Seahawk players were named to the 2017 NFHCA Academic Squad, including freshman Taylor Bulis (Lakeville, Mass.), sophomore Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), sophomore Hannah Filiault (Keene, N.H.), freshman Nicole Johnson (No. Easton, Mass.), freshman Ciara Labbe (Chichester, N.H.), senior Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.), senior Brooke Tolley (Brookside, N.J.), and junior Hope Vaughn (Granby, Conn.). This marks the 11th consecutive year that the Salve Regina field hockey team has earned this honor.

"Our players are serious about being student-athletes and continue to excel in the classroom while balancing their athletic demands," said Salve Regina head coach Jennifer Foster. "Our coaching staff is proud of what they have accomplished and how well they represent Salve Regina athletics."

Severino earns the distinction of being an academic squad member all four years.

In order to be eligible for the individual honors, student-athletes are required to achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

To be recognized for the academic team award, field hockey clubs must compile a combined GPA of at least 3.00 or better during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

Salve Regina was among 130 Division III schools to receive the honor, joining four other schools representing the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
