SEAHAWK FIELD HOCKEY RESULTS
Endicott 2, Salve Regina 1
Middletown, R.I. - Gaudet Field
Saturday, September 23, 2017

Summary
Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to provide the game-winner for Endicott College field hockey in a 2-1 decision over host Salve Regina University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. The teams were tied, 1-1, at halftime after Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) and Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) both converted penalty corners for their respective teams. Salve Regina (4-3, 3-1 CCC) had a game-tying goal in the second half nullified after a penalty corner feed from senior Brooke Tolley (Brookside, N.J.) was ruled untouched by the Seahawks. Endicott (6-2, 3-0 CCC) remains unbeaten in league play and rebounds from a non-league loss to No. 9 Amherst College on Thursday.

Series and Streaks
Endicott improves to 27-8 in the all-time series. The teams had split the last two regular-season series meetings; in 2015, each had won on the other's home field. They'll meet again next month in Beverly, Mass., on the Gulls' senior day celebration (Oct. 14; 1 p.m.).

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Endicott senior Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) assisted on the game's first goal after initiating a penalty corner for the Gulls. Wood kept the Seahawk offense (nearly four goals per game coming in today) in check, limiting Salve Regina to only five shots on freshman goalkeeper Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.).
  2. Salve Regina senior Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored her team- and league-leading ninth goal of the season to tie the game (1-1) in the 24th minute.
  3. Endicott senior Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, assisted by Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) - her fourth assist, to produce the final score.

Key Stat of the Game
In an evenly played matchup, both teams finished with 10 penalty corners, five in each half.

Turning Point
Hirtle's pass to Cogliano was one-timed into the back of the cage for the game-winner at 44:53. After Salve Regina's potential game-tying goal was nullified, Endicott's offense kept its attack in the Seahawk side of the field.

Quick Hits

  • Amber Cody has scored a goal in five of seven games which includes a three-goal effort in the season-opening win at WPI.
  • Salve Regina goalkeeper Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) stopped nine shots by the Gulls. She has played every minute in net on the season for the Seahawks.
  • Severino's counterpart, freshman Taylor Farrin, also has logged every minute for the Gulls. She denied four shots on goal in the Endicott victory.
