NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team has been announced as a recipient of the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Award, while five Seahawk players were named to the 2016 NFHCA Academic Squad, including freshman Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), freshman Molly Lafferty (Flemington, N.J.), junior Jessie Severino (Banford, Conn.), senior Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.), and Brooke Tolley (Brookside, N.J.). This marks the tenth consecutive year that the Salve Regina field hockey team has earned this honor.

"I am very proud of our team's continued commitment to excelling in the classroom," said Salve Regina head coach Jennifer Foster. "Being a student-athlete at Salve Regina is demanding and our players do a wonderful job of rising to the challenge".

In order to be eligible for the individual honors, student-athletes are required to achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

To be recognized for the academic team award, field hockey clubs must compile a combined GPA of at least 3.00 or better during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

Salve Regina was among 124 Division III schools to receive the honor, joining four schools representing the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
