Summary
Salve Regina University field hockey clinched the fourth and final spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason with a 4-1 victory over visiting Nichols College on Wednesday evening at Gaudet Field. Nichols scored the game's first goal at 6:49, just the fourth first-half goal of the season for the Bison. Salve Regina tied the game less than five minutes later, and added three unanswered goals in the second half.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks have won the last six meetings (by a combined score of 41-12) and have taken a 19-15 lead in the all-time series. Salve Regina also evens the series in games at Gaudet (3-3), the Seahawks' home site since 2011.

Three Stars of the Game
1 - Salve Regina freshman Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season, both in the second half, to give the Seahawks breathing room.
2 - Salve Regina junior Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal (her team-leading 18th goal of the season) and assisted on her sister's first goal of the night.
3 - Nichols freshman Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn.) made 32 saves while ranging many directions from her net.

Quick Hits

  • Nichols sophomore Courteney White (Orange, Mass.) converted the first Bison penalty corner into a 1-0 early lead (6:49) for her second goal of the season.
  • Salve Regina junior Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.) tied the score at 11:12 with her 13th goal of the year, ranking fourth in the CCC.

  • Salve Regina junior netminder Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) made eight saves for her ninth victory of the season.

Quotes
"These two seniors have always represented our program well both on the field and in the classroom. Their contributions on the field and their ability to lead their teammates will be missed." - head coach Jennifer Foster, on Gendreau and Thompson.
