Summary
The Salve Regina University field hockey hung on for a 4-3 victory over Endicott College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) meetings Saturday evening at Gaudet Field.

Series and Streaks
This was the 34th meeting between Salve Regina and Endicott. The Gulls still own a 26-8 record in the all-time series and the Seahawks snap a two game losing streak against Endicott.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina senior Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.) - converted a penalty stroke in the 51st minute to put the Seahawks back in front 3-2.
2 – Endicott junior Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) - scored the first two goals of the game for the Gulls including one 23 seconds into the second half to tie the game 2-2.
3 – Salve Regina junior Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) - made 15 saves to improve to 8-6 on the season.

Turning Point
Sarah Thompson converted a penalty stroke to break a 2-2 tie in the 51st minute. Five minutes later Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) fired in her sixteenth goal of the season off a rebound to give the Seahawks a little breathing room. That breathing room became the difference in the game when the Gulls' Melanie Kaleta (Bellingham, Mass.) scored two minutes later. The Seahawks faced six more shots and a penalty corner the rest of the way, with Severino making two saves to preserve the 4-3 victory.

Quick Hits

  • The Gulls initially jumped on top 1-0 in the 8th minute after controlling the ball for long stretches in the Seahawks end of the field. The Seahawks flipped the field however and would end up out scoring the Gulls 4-1 the remainder of the game.
  • Cheka Venture (Lawrence, Mass.) made ten saves in the loss, falling to 7-8 on the season.
  • Salve Regina held a 22-20 edge in shots.
