Wildcats efficient offense bests Seahawks

SEAHAWK FIELD HOCKEY RESULTS
Johnson & Wales 5, Salve Regina 4
Middletown, R.I. – Gaudet Field
Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Summary
The Salve Regina University field hockey team suffered its first ever loss to Johnson & Wales University, 5-4 at Gaudet Field Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup.

Series and Streaks
This was the fourth meeting between the teams. The Seahawks still own a 3-1 record in the all-time series. The Seahawks won the first three games, all on the road against the Wildcats, but drop the first home game of the series tonight.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – JWU sophomore Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.) - stopped 14 of 18 shots.
2 – Salve Regina freshman Allison Notorangelo (Hingham, Mass.) - scored back-to-back goal late in the second. The scores were the first of her career.
3 – JWU freshman Kaylyn Forest (Amherst, N.H.) - scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, including the goal that gave the Wildcats the lead for good.

Key Stat of the Game
The Wildcats were incredibly efficient on offense. Despite getting outshot 28-9 by the Seahawks in the game, all nine of the Wildcats shots were on goal, and five scored.

Turning Point
Although the Seahawks had outshot and out possessed the Wildcats they found themselves trailing 4-2 in the second half. Two quick goals from Allison Notorangelo had brought the Seahawks back, but 35 seconds later Kaylyn Forest received a pass in front and fired it home to give the Wildcats back the lead. It capped a 6:50 stretch where five goals were scored, three for the Wildcats and the two by Notorangelo. Salve Regina could only muster two more shots the remainder of the game and the Wildcats walked away with their first ever victory over the Seahawks.

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawks held a 15-4 advantage in corners.
  • Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) stopped four of nine shots and suffered her sixth loss of the season.
  • The Seahawks only led once in the game, 1-0 when Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.) scored on a feed from Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.) at 7:26 of the first half. The lead did not last long however as Forest scored her first of the night just 1:20 later on only the third shot of the game for the Wildcats.
