WENHAM, Mass.—A flurry of goals on both sides led to a 3-2 result for Salve Regina over Gordon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks stay hot, improving to 4-1 on the season, while Gordon dips to even at 3-3.

Defense was the story of the first half as both offenses were stifled over the first 35 minutes. Gordon held an 8-3 shot advantage over the visiting Seahawks, including five on frame, but keeper Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) held her ground to keep the Scots scoreless.

Each offense turned up the pressure in the second half with Gordon getting the party started less than five minutes into the period. Freshman forward Sabrina Jandreau (Winslow, Maine) finished a feed from fellow forward Alyssa Doucett (Barrington, N.H.) to give Gordon a 1-0 lead.

Salve Regina trudged right down the field off of the next tip and knotted the game at one on a strike by Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.). Venuto found the back of the net again just a few minutes later on a nice pass by Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) to put the Seahawks on top for the first time on the day.

The Seahawks were able to continue to pressure the Gordon defensive zone with a pair of penalty corners, but the Fighting Scots flipped the field in the 58th minute with Jandreau's fourth score of the season.

Play continued in the midfield for much of the next few minutes coming off of a timeout, but Salve found its winning opportunity in the 63rd minute. Cody sent a ball to the top of the circle on a penalty corner, which found the stick of Brooke Tolley (Brookside, N.J.). The junior midfielder pounded the feed toward the net and Cody finished the drive with the insert for the 3-2 lead.

Gordon had a pair of penalty corners in the final 90 seconds, but Salve was able to clear the ball away from danger and preserve the narrow advantage.

Severino made six saves for the Seahawks in the victory, improving to 4-1 on the season. Fresh off a clean sheet, Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) made three stops in 70 minutes of action.

Of Note:
Hicks made a stop on a penalty stroke for the second time this season after previously making a save on one during the MIT game last week.
