NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University field hockey head coach Jennifer Foster has announced three athletes as captains for her program in the 2016 season coming this fall - senior Erin Gendreau (Sandwich, Mass.), junior Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.), and Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.).

"With a large incoming freshmen class coming in next fall, we will look to these captains to show the new players how we do things and hold the entire team accountable," says Foster, whose 2015 team set a program record for most wins in a single season (17). "Erin, Sarah and Jessie work hard day in and day out and that energy is contagious. After a strong spring season we are excited to see what the 2016 season brings."

Foster, 31-13 (.705) last two seasons, was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Coach of the Year in 2015. She graduates the league's offensive player of the year (Abigail Tepper) and defensive player of the year (Allison Gold) while returning all-conference performers Gendreau (midfield) and Severino (goalkeeper).

The Seahawks open the 2016 season at home (Gaudet Field in Middletown) when they play host to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, September 1.
