Seahawks defeat Wildcats, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team defeated Wheelock College, 9-0, tonight at Winsor Field.

It took just 1:36 for the Seahawks to put themselves on the board, as junior forward Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) carried the ball upfield to score an unassisted goal. Just about three minutes later Tepper would strike again, dumping in a ball off the stick of classmate Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.).

It was Gagnon again who scored the next pair of goals; the first assisted by freshman forward Brooke Tolley (Brookside, N.J.) and the second unassisted in the 29th minute. Sophomore midfielder Courtney McMorrow (Montclair, N.J.) lifted Salve to 5-0 to close the half after capitalizing on a penalty corner.

Sophomore midfielder Erin Gendreau (Sandwich, Mass.) used a helper from junior midfielder Julia Grover (Cotuit, Mass.) to open the scoring in the second half before Gagnon connected with Tepper once again, boosting the Seahawks lead to 7.

Freshman midfielder Erin McKenna (Exeter, N.H.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career after converting a pass from classmate Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.). Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored the ninth and final goal of the evening thanks to senior midfielder Brianna Cain (Saunderstown, R.I.).

Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Miranda (Westbrook, Maine) stopped 9 for the Wildcats on the evening. Senior netminder Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) earned the win for the Seahawks, stopping two.

The Wildcats play their first conference matchup this Saturday at Regis at 1:30 p/m. Salve Regina travels to Gordon College Saturday as well for a 1 p.m. contest.
