Tepper's trio of goals take Salve Regina to victory

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) scored three times in the first half to propel Salve Regina University field hockey to an 8-3 win against Johnson & Wales University at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats were the first to strike when freshman Cassandra McClaflin (South Hadley, Mass.) netted a pass from senior Bethany Barrar (Somerset, Mass.) in the second minute to give JWU the 1-0 lead.

The Seahawks answered three minutes later when Heather Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass.) scored her first of back-to-back goals after she tipped in a shot by Erin Gendreau (Sandwich, Mass.) to even the score at one apiece. Salve Regina then struck for five more in the first half, including three from Tepper.

In the second half, Salve Regina netted its eighth and final goal when Julia Grover (Cotuit, Mass.) scored her first of the game at the 41:58 mark. Sophomore Amanda Takach (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored the second Wildcat goal while Barrar netted the final goal of the game to bring the score to 8-3. JWU outshot the Seahawks 10-9 in the second half and only allowed one goal despite losing their starting goalie to injury at the half. 

Junior Jaclyn Lyons (Hillsborough, N.J.) and senior Aughtum Slavin (Wilmington, Del.) combined for ten saves for Johnson & Wales while sophomore Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) and Courtney Moulton (Merrimack, N.H.) made four stops in the victory for Salve Regina.
