Bears hold on after two goals in first, 2-0

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Senior forward Carissa Vizakis (Bellingham, Mass.) and senior forward Demi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) each scored goals in the last eight minutes of the first half for Bridgewater State University field hockey as the Bears blanked Salve Regina University, 2-0, in non-league action at Gaudet Field in Middletown.

Bridgewater State gets its first road win of 2013 and improves to 12-6 all-time against Salve Regina.

Salve Regina managed more penalty corners (14-to-12), but was outshot by the visitors by 10 (26-to-16).

Vizakis broke a scoreless tie with her third goal of the season at 27:45. Miskiv's third goal of the season at 31:53 made the score 2-0 before intermission.

Junior Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) recorded 10 saves for the Seahawks while her counterpart Kacie Sturgeon (Dartmouth, Mass.) did the same; both goalies had five saves in each half.

Salve Regina (1-2) travels to Salem, Mass., on Thursday for another non-league game with the Vikings; Bridgewater State (2-1) hosts WPI on Thursday.
