NEWPORT, R.I. - One hundred eleven student-athletes were named to the Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon. Salve Regina University had 18 members of its football team make the squad.

In order to be recognized as a member of the Academic All-Conference Team an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) and must also have attained sophomore academic status.

Among the 18 was Brandon O'Neil (Madison, Conn.) who distinguished himself this fall by earning a selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-District® Team.

O'Neill notched 46 tackles, 16 for a loss of 80 yards. He forced three fumbles, recovered one for a touchdown (at Curry), and had nine sacks that dropped the opposing quarterback 54 yards in 2018. He ranked second in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) for sacks. O'Neill currently holds a 3.68 GPA while studying business administration.

"Academic All-Conference is the definition of the type of student athlete we love here at Salve Regina," said head coach Kevin Gilmartin. "These are the men that lead us to be champions, on and off the field."
