NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University sophomore Matt Sylvia (East Greenwich, R.I.) as its Defensive Player of the Week for football (October 1 - 7).

Defensive Player of the Week - Sylvia added two more interceptions to his league lead in Salve Regina's 31-8 CCC Football victory over Becker on Saturday (Oct. 6). He returned the two picks for a combined 14 yards and also recorded four tackles (three solo, one assisted). Sylvia is now one interception away from tying the Seahawks' record for picks in a single season.

Salve Regina (3-3, 1-1 CCC) enters its bye week in the league schedule before returning to the gridiron for a road game against the Colonels of Curry College on Saturday, October 20.
