Trio of Seahawks defenders named captains for 2018

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University football head coach Kevin Gilmartin announced his captains for the 2018 season – Tyler D'Errico (Chesire, Conn.), Brandon O'Neill (Madison, Conn.), and John Salute (Mahwah, N.J.) will captain next season's squad.

D'Errico, a Second Team All-CCC linebacker, led the Seahawks with 54 tackles, recorded 2.5 sacks, five tackles for a loss of 22 yards, a fumble recovery, and two pass breakups. He was also named to the CCC Football Academic All-Conference team. 

O'Neill, a First Team All-CCC defensive lineman, notched 32 tackles, nine for a loss of 54 yards while forcing a fumble, had 5.5 sacks, broke up a pass, and intercepting a pass. He ranked third in the CCC for sacks. He was named to the CCC Football Academic All-Conference team and was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-District™ player.

Salute, another First Team All-CCC defensive lineman, had 32 tackles, 10.5 for a loss of 58 yards, broke up three passes and recovered a fumble. He ranked second in the CCC for sacks. Salute was also named to the CCC Football Academic All-Conference team.

"All three of these players have been absolute impact players for us since the day they set foot on campus," said head coach Kevin Gilmartin. "Having players like Tyler, Brandon, and John is what makes us a great team, not only because of their ability on the field, but because of everything they do on and off the field.  I am confident that their leadership will help propel us to excel beyond our goals this upcoming season."
