CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week: Charlie Connell

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University football sophomore Charlie Connell (Oradell, N.J.) has won the Commonwealth Coast Football Defensive Player of the Week award.

Connell bookended his season opener with a pair of interceptions as Salve Regina knocked off non-conference opponent Worcester State, 35-28. Connell literally picked off the first and last passes from the Lancer quarterback. His first pick on Worcester State's opening drive was returned for a touchdown to open the scoring. He then brought down the game-clincher as with the Lancer's driving to tie the game.

The Seahawks (1-0) will next host Montclair State at 12 p.m. on Saturday in the team's newly renovated home at Toppa Field in Newport, R.I.
