NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University linebacker Matt Conroy (Philadelphia, Pa.) has won the defensive player of the week award for the New England Football Conference (NEFC).

Defensive Player of the Week - Conroy had a pair of fourth-quarter picks on consecutive Coast Guard possessions in Salve Regina's 20-10 victory. Conroy returned the first interception from his end zone 65 yards and the Seahawks scored an insurace touchdown on the very next play. On Coast Guard's next possession, Conroy grabbed another errant pass and returned that 34 yards enabling the Salve Regina offense to run three minutes off the clock. He added three tackles including one for a loss of a yard.

Conroy raised his season interception total to three for 159 return yards and his career picks to seven. He joins Rory McEntee (Nov. 3) and Steven Wilken (Sept. 22) as NEFC weekly honorees.

The Seahawks, 5-4, conclude their regular season with a home game against Endicott College at noon on Saturday at Gaudet Field. Conroy, McEntee, and Wilken are among 26 seniors playing in their final regular season game as Salve Regina also pays a special tribute to the United States military.
