Four Seahawks named to pre-season All-American lists

NEWPORT, R.I. - Four Salve Regina Football players have been named to various 2014 pre-season All-American teams.

Junior defensive lineman Haydon Stanton (Wallingford, Conn.), who was named a co-captain for the 2014 season, received first team defensive honors on Lindy's Sports Pre-Season All-Division III list, was named a D3Football.com 2014 Pre-Season second team defense All-American, and garnered an honorable mention from USA College Football's Division III Pre-Season All-American list.

In 2013 Stanton Started all 11 games on the defensive line for the Seahawks totaling 57 tackles, a league-leading 11.5 sacks for 64 yards, had 17 tackles for loss for 94 yards, broke up one pass, forced two fumbles, and blocked two kicks. The 94 yards from TFL is tied for second best in a single season at Salve Regina. Stanton was also named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Year, named to the D3footbal.com All-Region and All-America teams, earned a spot on the NEFW All-New England DII/III teams and named a BSN All-American.

Senior cornerback Phil Terio (Trumbull, Conn.) was named a USA College Football Division III Pre-Season All-American first team cornerback and second team defense on Lindy's Sports Pre-Season All-Division III team.

Terio started all 11 games at corner for the Seahawks in 2013 compiling 60 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss for nine yards, defended eight passes, forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, intercepted two passes, and returned one punt for a touchdown. He was named to the NEFC All-Conference team as both a corner and the top return specialist, named a BSN All-American for the second-straight season, named a D3football.com All-Region selection, and earned a spot on the NEFC Academic All-Conference team for the second straight year. In 2012 D3Football.com named him an All-American as both a cornerback and return specialist.

Senior offensive lineman Paul Hurley (Park Ridge, N.J.) received USA College Football Pre-Season Division III All-American offensive first team honors. He started all 11 games on the offensive line for the Seahawks in 2013, one of only two o-linemen to start every game. He was also named to the NEFC First Team offensive line.

Senior strong safety Matt Conroy (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named a pre-season second team defense All-American by USA College Football. Conroy finished the 2013 season third on the team with 70 tackles, totaled 11 tackles for loss for 39 yards, had four sacks, broke up two passes, recovered a pair of fumbles, had two interceptions for 17 yards, and was named a NEFC First Team All-Conference linebacker.

The Seahawks open the 2014 season Friday, September 5 at Bridgewater State.
