NEWPORT, R.I. – Former standout on the offensive line and now Salve Regina football coach Daniel Kehew (Portsmouth, R.I.) is one step closer to achieving his lifelong dream – to play in the National Football League. Kehew has been selected to participate in a Super Regional Combine on April 12 in Detriot, Mich.

After an impressive showing at the CDFL Europe vs. America game last December. Kehew entertained several offers to play arena football or overseas before being invited to a regional combine at the Jets indoor training facility a few weeks ago. Kehew again impressed at the regional combined and was asked to come to the Super Regional Combine on April 12 held at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.

The offensive lineman is now home preparing for the combine after intense training with Sam Dadd at Boyles Strength and Conditioning. Kehew has returned to where his college career started and is currently training with Salve Regina's strength and condition coaches, Tom Blaney and Marcus Calhoun. "The work outs are intense but I have learned to love every second of it," Kehew explained. "I have an entirely new level of motivation now that [playing in the NFL is] so close and within my grasps."

During his tenure at Salve Regina, Kehew was a player that worked out and trained just as hard in season and he did out of season – and that is something that showed on the field. As a four-year member of the Seahawks, Kehew played in 35 games and was a key part of the offensive line while on the field. In 2012, Kehew was named to the New England Football Conference All-Boyd Division first team and was a part of arguably the best o-line in the conference.

Now a year and a half removed from his college playing days, Kehew has not let that stop him from pursing his dream to play in the NFL. Along the side of his former teammate, Maxwell Shubert, Kehew has been training just as hard, if not harder than in his college playing days. Shubert has recently signed a contract to play professionally in Finland after playing in the Europe vs. American game with Kehew last December.

Being a year out of playing competitively might deter some players, but not Kehew. "I thought I'd have trouble playing after being out for a while but after the first practice I was down there I felt like I was back in the swing if things," said Kehew.

"Shubert and I have been training hard together for a while and worked hard to be in great shape for the game and now he is on his way to Finland to play professionally and hopefully I'll be here playing in the NFL."

Hard work and determination paired with the support and encouragement of those around you is the key to success and Kehew has it all. This past summer, Kehew signed with Above the Rest Agency and has been working with Gene Garlino and Billy "V" Vigeant to continue his playing career.

The road to the NFL is never easy but Kehew has it in his sights and is doing everything he can to make that dream a reality.
